Getting Ready - So much work

Wow - its finally departure day.
We haven't done much training which is a bit worrying.
We are a year older, inevitably, but still in our youthful fifties.
This time we are doing a bike ride then two walks.
Prague to Vienna by bikes, then Transylvania on foot through the Carpathian Mountains of Roumania and finally on foot through the High Atlas mountains of Morocco.
To get to this point Clare seems to have seen every one of her patients in the last two weeks. I have had to rearrange our finances, glue myself to the mower (I now do the neighbours 11  acres plus our 16) and accelerate our fence building (with the neighbours help). There are a couple of gates strung with wire but we now have a fenced home paddock. So, while we are away, wallabies can no longer eat our plants.
Are we fully prepared?
The short answer is no!!!!!
We have good gear and experience in taking the right quantity. Our trips are supported this time (luxury!) so we will take double eg about 15 kilograms each in a pack and a small suitcase .

The ride and first walk are self guided and so a support vehicle takes our stuff to our next nights accommodation and the company gives us bikes, maps and does all the bookings. All we do is walk or ride, with a day pack. The Morocco walk is with a group of about 8 and we share a mule for our luggage. Our accommodation will be mostly 3 star hotels with a couple of tents and home-stays in Morocco.

Are we fully prepared - our preparation started late (about 4 months ago for walking) with day walks on the weekend. We ramped up gradually and planned two big walks (about 6hrs) for the last two weeks. For cycling, we bought a bike each! When we tried to ride them we got a shock. Its hard work! Here I must digress a little and go back in time to our longest walk. The Spanish Camino or Camino de Santiago de Compostella. On this walk ,we walked, and we watched hundreds of cyclists wizz past us, often going downhill at breakneck speeds. Without thinking about it you just know that they have the easy life.

They Don't though!
We have done two longer rides of about 20 kilometers and our muscles complained a lot. Different muscles to our walking muscles (unfortunately).

Why didn't we do more training?
Life has been very busy and our weekends packed with stuff.
Our last two day walks were ill fated as were our last two bike rides. We arrived at Wentworth Falls about a month ago ready to do the Wentworth Track, our favorite big walk. This takes us right down to the valley floor and along to and then up, up up, to lunch at the Conservation Hut.
No could do, as track was closed. So we did a shorter walk with less climbing (still go lunch though, nice).

The story of our failed last ride and last walk was a little more dramatic.
In short, on our last ride, Clare got a cramp, fell from her bike and fractured  bones in her elbow and wrist. A week later, She's in a wrist cast and feeling somewhat recovered though sore. We will attempt to do all the adventures though underdone and somewhat doneover.

    We are still locked in, with an IMG needing close Supervision for 6 months plus currently have our relative from UK .....Ed is an Oxford Medical Student, just completed his finals, and out here to do a Student Elective. His Dad is Brian's cousin. He's a great young man and is having a blast ....but it is 110% full on for Brian. Plus he is staying with us. Off to Rural Doctors Conference, taking Ed, tomorrow. Cheers
